http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-31442952We can show them that picture of Uma Thurman and ask them what they make of it I'm more worried about a rise in support for UKIP as a result than an actual threat tbh...

They'd probably just say that it's her face and she can do whatever she wants with/to it. Mark

Yes. But what do they really make of it?

Talk to Aliens? Are you having a laugh? We can't even talk to the other creatures on our own planet without shouting at them!

I'm with Hawking on this one. The only examples we have of advanced cultures meeting less advanced ones frequently don't end well for the less advanced ones. While we naturally can't assume that any alien species we meet will behave in the same way as humans it's not necessarily a good idea to assume everything will be fine either.
Having said that, we've been spamming the cosmos with TV and radio signals for decades so the cat is out of the bag as far as keeping quite is concerned, we just mabe shouldn't go firing off signals at specific targets and hoping that the locals are more ET than Zerg.

As above, I thought our terrestial signals were being broadcast into space? In which case they're getting some of our TV shows. Maybe they saw Jeremy Kyle and ran away?

We can either actively try to contact alien lifeforms or just hide under a rock and hope nobody notices us.
The galaxy is so vast anyway the chances of contacting alien life is incredibly small.

More than that. Unless they have faster-than-light travel, most of us won't be around if and when they arrive.

Yes, but he also saved every one of us. "Flash" (Taken from the Internet, and I haven't checked the lyrics for accuracy) Flash a-ah Savior of the Universe Flash a-ah He'll save every one of us (Seemingly there is no reason for these extraordinary intergalactical upsets) (Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha) (What's happening Flash?) (Only Doctor Hans Zarkhov, formerly at NASA, has provided any explanation) Flash a-ah He's a miracle (This morning's unprecedented solar eclipse is no cause for alarm) Flash a-ah King of the impossible He's for every one of us Stand for every one of us He save with a mighty hand Every man, every woman Every child, with a mighty Flash (General Kala, Flash Gordon approaching.) (What do you mean Flash Gordon approaching? Open fire! All weapons! Dispatch war rocket Ajax to bring back his body) Flash a-ah (Gordon's alive!) Flash a-ah He'll save every one of us Just a man With a man's courage You know he's Nothing but a man And he can never fail No one but the pure at heart May find the Golden Grail ...Oh..Oh........Oh..Oh.... (Flash, Flash, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!) Flash
