this sizeable piece got washed up on the beach where I usually find aircraft parts getting washed up, wondering if anyone recognises what it may be, if its even military or aviation related etc

An uneducated guess says it looks like a really old suspension piece or part of an old steering rack from a cart of something.

Yep, chasis /suspension parts would be my guess as well.

They are mass production parts, I don't know how old, but I'd guess, from the 50s to 70s.
