The missus (as she is now generally referred to) has been getting emails from talktalk informing her about her latest bill. She has never had anything to do with talktalk. Neither has her family. She's tried to contact talktalk but they can't verify account details and/or they can't find her on the system. She's asked me to look into it. I went in suspecting a phishing scam. It isn't.

I had a look at the emails and they go back as far as 2013.

Using the forgotten password reminder, I've managed to log into the talktalk account. My fiancee's email address is firstnamemiddlename@hotmail. The account is registered to Mrs firstname middlename (as surname). This rang a bell in my head. The associated address and phone numbers mean nothing to me but are all based in London (fiancee moved up from London almost ten years ago). Looking further, the payments are made by direct debit and are always cleared.

I've logged onto my fiancee's bank account (she's given me the details and permission) and there's no bills from talktalk.

I'm gonna have a chat tonight and see if my fiancee recognises any of the details (I know her family have a house in London that they're renting out). If not, any suggestions on how to proceed?

It could all be co-incidental in that it's someone with a same name and maybe same email address in another hotmail domain and it's just mixed up. Worse case scenario, it's identity theft (but then the payments seem to be paid without any problems).

I have an old @operamail.com account which is just firsnamesurname. I've incorrectly used it with a . between the names to sign up for stuff before. It sounds like that has happened here - except now you've gone and reset their password and they have no way to recover it.

Missus doesn't recognise the address/details. I've run addresses and phone numbers through the interweb and can't much other than the house was bought in 2014. I've run a couple of different directory things and both give me differing names, only one of which might match (same first initial and same surname as on the talktalk account). I'm starting to consider this as a legitimate error.

You may have to get in touch with TalkTalk's accounts department. Good luck with that....

Yeah I'm not gonna go down that route. It would us more aggravation. I've decided to elect to send paper bills to the house.
