M&S gets the knives out for ‘simple white bread’ | Life and style | The Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle ... hite-breadWhat's going on in the UK? We're not drinking much tea any more, and now we're told the cheap white loaf is on it's way out? We're losing our way! I remember when this was all Starbucks. Fields, I mean fields...

Given simple white bread isn't that healthy, it probably isn't a bad thing.
We do get it here, but it is under half the size (width and height) of a British sliced loaf, and it is called "Golden Toast" and is just for toasting.
I would say that toast bread accounts for a very small percentage of all of the bread sold in Germany. If you go to the local bakery on the corner, you will usually get a selection of around 15 different bread rolls and nearly a dozen different types of loaves, none of the loaves being plain white.

I can only eat bread made by the Chorleywood process (which is pretty much all commercial UK white bread) toasted.Even though in theory it is cooked, it has a habit of upsetting my stomach. Somehow toasting stops that happening, never understood why. White bread that is traditionally proved doesn't seem to cause me any problem at all.

I can't eat white bread, it tastes too sweet, though I sometimes have 50/50 frozen then toasted (it's much better!) Chorleywood bread is very addictive and unnatural, I can digest all other breads fine.

You can't have a bacon sandwich with brown bread. It should be illegal.

Fcuk healthy, that sort of advice changes on a weekly basis*, and only a nutter would or could keep track of it whilst shopping.
* Eggs - for a long time considered semi-lethal for all sorts of reasons, now, full of vitamins!
Butter - OMG, the fats! Get on the margarine with the saturated fats! Saturated fats?! They're dangerous!
Fats - Obesity crisis! Oh, no, wait, sugar!
Sugar - Make sure your kids are on the fruit drinks! Er, no, hang on...
Booze - Oh, just drink it, cos at this point you need it.

This. There are certain sandwiches which work with white bread, and certain sandwiches that work with brown bread. People who get this wrong should be exiled.

To be fair, you do have an excuse . They sound rather like a 'brown bread' kind of sandwich to me.

Normal sandwiches I am quite happy to have on brown bread. For a lighter version I go for a wrap but generally I try not to eat too much bread so it's saved for weekends.
