...and I realised I mostly use it for research in one form or another.

Product reviews
How do I fix X?
A random game title - what's the gameplay look like?

I rarely use it the way most people seem to use it - for music and comedy vids. Don't get me wrong, there's probably no greater resource in that regard (something I'll get to in a minute), it's just I don't tend to stick around with YouTube. Watch someone's link or find what I want and skedaddle. Yet I know people who treat it more like TV. Maybe Netflix is closer... I personally don't subscribe to channels or bother with what's trending or whatever :|

Do you spend long on YouTube? Deliberately go there to be distracted? Barely use it?

I was just thinking we probably take it for granted when it's an absolute treasure trove in a hundred different ways. Nostalgia in every form. Global items of every description. Homemade and commercial content in one place. That quick clip of a TV show or film... It really is something special :D

Some interesting science stuff, gaming tips & news, sports coverage that isn't mainstream enough for TV (e.g. this weekend's archery world championship, which is being streamed live).

EDIT : Turns out the archery championship is taking place in Mexico. Might not be being streamed after all

I often watch movies on YouTube, mostly old stuff that's hard to find otherwise.

I basically use youtube for:
  • mrsundaymovies for comic book stuff
  • a few channels for photography - either product reviews, how to shoot or how to use lightroom
  • trailers
  • when you want to hear a specific song or view a specific scene from a film/tv series
