Should High Streets Have Fast Walking Lanes?

Gut reaction? Yes.

When you've got people who aren't looking where they're going, others who move at a snail's pace for no good reason, parents who don't even hold their kid's hand and let them run about streets filled with people/cyclists/lorries... Then I come along with my six foot tall stride, looking to buy what I want and get the fcuk out as fast as possible lol.

The absolute worst are the d1ckheads who stand at a shop entrance wondering if they should go in or not!

My gut reaction is no, we should learn manners, by which I mean moving out of the way so people who want to pass can.

If I had a pound for every time someone has thanked me and the wife for doing just that, during our daily walk in the park, I would be a rich man. Not quite 'Ritchie Rich' rich, but a hell of a lot better off than I am now!

I agree, I'm the same, but it's more the fact you continually get stuck behind people IME. It gets old quickly.

I'm a frustrated as the next person about people walking at a snails pace down the street but I don't think giving councils or the police something else to fine people for would be a terribly good idea (mind you they probably don't have the budgets these days to actually enforce stuff like this anyway so it would be utterly pointless).

walk along back streets if you can? Tourists and muppets tend to herd into the main junctions

There is no need to walk on Oxford street for example as there's parallel back streets which are empty.

I tend to be frustrated more by people walking in groups abreast and blocking the pavement. I normally power walk past most people but it's harder if there's a large group. I also tend to avoid this problem by going to the shops early in the morning. I've been known to get in and out before 10am.

No.
People stop and start. People cross sides. People walk into/out of shops. People walk at different speeds.......
Within a day you'd have chaos if you tried to do something like that. You'd get foot rage instead of road rage.

Exactly, and I shall be in the fast lane. Possibly launching any dawdlers out of the way.

Lots of pavements near me have been split and have 'cycle' and 'pedestrian' sections. Which are often ignored.

Anything goes here, which is why I also want a 'get in the sea!' lane ;)

All the towns I've lived in, the High Street has always been hardly wide enough for two people to pass each other...

That was the way I was brought up. You looked around you and got out of other people's way, if you were dawdling.
