So I'm reading a paperback and finding I miss my Kindle because


I have to use both hands otherwise it just feels awkward

The print is tiny

The paper is recycled and a bit nasty

I really don't like cracking the spine of a book

I can't really snack or drink at the same time

The book turned up a bit battered

Trying to read by daylight is a pain in cloudy-ass Belfast lol


On the plus side, it has a lovely embossed cover and nostalgia is a factor with print. Overall though, I'd much rather be reading it on my Kindle for the above reasons. So I'll be voting 'e-Books'... you? You can change your vote.

(I do appreciate there are certain scenarios where an e-book will never do. And diehards )

Generally ebooks.
The exception being manga which looks [LIFTED] on eBook readers.

I really dislike this too, which is why a lot of the books I used to have were hardback.
I actually still have a lot of hardback books at my Mum's house in England, they're gonna be a right pain to move over here when the time comes.
Moving about as I have done the last 6 years, I've actually ditched all my physical books - apart from the Neil Gaiman ones - some of which are signed first editions.
The most recent books I have bought have all been eBooks on my iPad.

Proper books. Physical media still has so many advantages over the digital.

Where's the option for both?

I usually have two or three books on the go at any one time - some are on my tablet and others are real books. I don't mind either.

I have always preferred physical books over e books but I've bought around 40 ebooks and they're all on my iPhone kindle app or my kindle device.

And not having your digital publisher revoke your right to possess a copy. And battery life. And lending to a mate. Not having inevitable legacy software format issues in the future. That kind of thing.

And having it come back with tea stains on the pages, dog-eared pages, snapped spine, torn covers, missing dust jacket ...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-physical media, I just think in terms of books, I can certainly see the benefits of digital.
You can't get digital books signed by the author, for instance.

I voted books ......because

I like seeing them in my library
I can borrow them
I can lend them
No chance of a Co coming to my house to take it back if they mis-sold it to me
Never run out of battery
Can get it signed
If I lose it its only a book and not £100 quids worth of gear

There's also the collectability aspect. I'd be surprised if original files of the first issues of the first ebooks ever became collectable. Even the first 'ebooks' on 3.5" floppy back in the day might be collectable, but I'd suggest it's the physical media that carries the worth rather than the data.

Indeed not. I've a couple of books signed by the author. I couldn't imagine handing Douglas Coupland my kindle and asking him to sign it, but maybe someone would.

Absolutely.
Every re-issue places greater collectable prestige on the first editions of any text, getting those signed even more so.

Not had any problems with books being revoked. Battery life? With my daily reading, I charge the reader about once every month / month and a half over night.
Formats are a worry, but hopefully, unless the supplier goes tits-up, that shouldn't be a problem.

We switched to eBooks mainly because all of our shelves were full and we didn't have any place left for books, without investing in new shelving and ruining the look of the newly decorated lounged by filling up a whole wall with bookshelves.

eBooks are convenient and when travelling, they are great. When I went on holiday, I took my reader, a few grams and very little space, but had access to hundreds of books. In the old days, we would pack half a dozen large books into the suitcase, robbing us of space for more useful items. They certainly have a lot of advantages, but I still like reading our old paper books as well.

I certainly wouldn't prefer eBooks if I was reading on a tablet or smartphone, the screens are just wrong and I can't read them for long, but on the Kindles they are great.

I bought the Robert Llewllyn "News from..." series, all signed by the author, but I bought the bumper pack and got the eBooks as well. I read the eBooks and have the signed versions on a shelf.
