Post subject: | Recommendations for mobile phone insurance provider |
Hi all, I'm the proud new owner of an iPhone 6S and, as this is the first phone I've had that's worth more than a hundred pounds (yes, really!), I think I'd better get some insurance sorted! Any recommendations? I don't have a premium current account with my bank, I know they sometimes give you mobile insurance, but I'd rather not change bank accounts just to get that, so I'm looking for a dedicated mobile insurance policy. I've seen a few on the web, but would rather get a recommendation from someone who's used them. Thanks in advance! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

No, I don't think so. Not away from the house anyway. Also, my provider, EE, didn't provide a quote presumably because I bought the phone from Apple and just went to them to upgrade my package to a sim-only deal. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I think the last (and only) time I've had mobile insurance it was with Insure and go or something like that. It was cheaper that the phone providers but I never had to claim off it and that's the important bit. You could have a look and see if the price comparison sites cover mobile insurance. |

Used the bank insurance twice. Excess was £50. Self inflicted not covered. In short not worth the premium. |

Applecare. You're allowed a couple of accidents a year and they will replace the phone no questions asked. |

Thanks guys (and gal). I looked into AppleCare but, from what I can see, it's purely an extended warranty for accidental damage, repairs or faulty products and doesn't cover against theft, which was my main worry - that's why I was looking for a dedicated mobile phone insurance. The price of the AppleCare is very expensive here, it costs more than most of smartphones we use at home! ![]() We took it out for one of our company phones, because Apple make you send in the iPhone over here and you have to wait 2 weeks for them to reutrn it. With AppleCare, Apple will replace the iPhone when they collect the old one - which is what every other smartphone supplier does anyway. But it was just too expensive. Given we have around 40 smartphones and have replaced 2 broken screens, it just doesn't pay for itself - although with the Secure Enclave and the price of replacing a screen on a 6S /6S+ (about 300€ - 400€, as opposed to 140€ for a 6/6+ and the 40€ or so for most normal Android phones), it might actually be worth looking at again. |

I only took out AppleCare as mine had an accident in some water. Of course I took out the insurance in case it died and it's been fine ever since lol. The rice trick worked though I did get some funny looks asking for rice in the canteen at work. |

Note that if you can wangle an education pricing, Applecare is much MUCH cheaper. |
