A technical question, but falls into both PC and Mac...
I have to buy some typefaces (specifically Helvetica Neue 55 and 75). Does anyone have a reputable supplier? I landed on the Linotype site, which is the official publisher, but myfonts were about half the price... How can you determine, whether the supplier is reputable?

Are you sure?
Here in the UK MyFonts is £42.00 per weight for individual font weights but that that's without VAT. When you add VAT it's the same as the Linotype price £50.40 which already includes VAT.
If you are still getting a big price discrepancy between the two sites check that you are actually looking at the same versions on each site there's lots of different options for weight bundles, and glyph sets as well as desktop/web/server versions of the fonts.
To answer your question on how reputable the sites are IIRC when you actually buy from MyFonts you get re-directed to the Linotype site anyway for their fonts.

Myfonts wanted 49€ per font, Linotype 89€.
Went with Myfonts in the end, I found a web reputation site, which gave them a good score.

Are you sure that you were looking at the same character sets for the fonts on each web site?
The difference in price looks to me like the difference between the standard and pan-European character sets. On the Linotype site you access these options from a drop-down menu, whereas on MyFonts the standard character set versions are at the top of the list and the pan-European ones are hidden away right at the bottom.
Most of the time you'll be fine with the standard character set as it contains all the glyphs you need for most Western European languages. However if you also need glyphs for Eastern European languages such as accents for Polish and Czech you'll need the extended pan-European set.
