Well why not? It's clearly dangerous: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8225698.stm And before anyone says "it's only a minority" - well it's only a minority of people who misuse guns too.

Probably a ploy by TV networks to ban stadium attendance so that subscriptions increase.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Violence should be met with increased violence.
You stab someone, you get stabbed back. Twice. In the eyes first, so you can't find another victim, then in the ribs to feel the pain.
Then you're left to rot on your own, no state support to help you with your new disability.
And if you can't cope you can choose to end your life.
Simple. I can see violent crimes being reduced pretty well.

Yup, namby-pamby players and braindead thugs in the stands - it's not something a modern world needs. It's a bit like Big Brother - it appeals to the wrong people and has had it's day.

I think I'll wait for some of the sensible people to wake up before I say anything... but you lot are so wrong, and a bunch of pillocks to boot! Pun intended...

Quite simply no.
Football is part of our national heritage; it is a massive revenue generator for the economy, and above all it is a healthy, cheap, active social past time that can be enjoyed by all our ages, in pretty much any environment.
However, in incidents where large numbers of angry boys have congregated to kick seven shades of sh1t out of each other I am all for the police penning them in, letting them do what they have to do, then advance on the remaining standing few with armoured horse, water cannon tank, rubber bullets and extendable batons.

Perhaps they could try executing the worst offenders as half-time entertainment? Give it a bit more of a Circus Maximus feel.

I don't mind football. I don't hate it but I am not a massive fan. What I don't like is prima donna premier league footballers and some of the fans.
I was at a Spurs vs West Ham match a few years ago at White Hart Lane. Naturally there are some Hammers fans sitting in the home stands, one guy and his very young son. When West Ham scored they stood up and clapped, they didn't go mad like the away section did. As we were leaving, some ogre of a Spurs fan started threatening him, with all the effing and blinding you could imagine. He said that if the **** didn't have his ******* **** of a child he would kick the ******* **** of the ****. Even his mates were telling him to shut up.

Football fans are representative of society. If you pulled 30,000 random people in off the street, quite a few of them would be psychotic nutters. The problem football has - although up until this week it did think it had largely eradicated it - was that football teams give the psychotic nutters a banner to congregate around and a reason/excuse to fight with other psychotic nutters.
If you ban football, you won't have banned psychotic nutters. They will just find some other excuse. In one sense football serves a valid function of at least keeping all the psychotic nutters in one place at one time, so the police can gather intelligence and make arrests if they feel like doing so. That is the psychotic nutters who aren't policemen anyway.
Banning football won't make most town centres any more fun on a Friday night or make A&E's weekends any more serene. Banning football would soothe the symptom but it would do nothing to eradicate the problem.
