OK Folks,
With things officially kicked off and Wales and England both due to play their first games today, it seems worth a thread if people want to talk about it. I thought France looked a bit shaky and were essentially rescued by a moment of brilliance. That kind of thing can take you so far, but they'll need to be more coherent as a team to get to the final.
No news on team selections for Wales (4PM kickoff) or England (8pm kickoff) yet.
Just about to kick off is Switzerland vs Albania, where we have the unusual situation of a pair brothers playing on opposing sides..
Also, I got Northern Ireland in the office sweepstake. Bah.

Win made me happy after Bale's pre match talk. What about Northern Ireland though! I hope they have a good go at the Germans next Tuesday.

I believe they were in the same qualifying group as Germany and did beat them. Watching the GER vs POL game last night, the Poles made more than enough chances to beat Germany but they fell to the wrong forward. if Northern Ireland can play as well but do a bit better in front of goal, they stand a pretty good chance.

To be fair, Russia are rubbish. They pretty much played entirely defensively against England and Slovakia but they obviously fancied their chances against the Welsh, which gave Ramsey a lot more space to play in midfield. More fool them.
As I said to someone last night, given the team, fans and association officials, the sooner Russia are on the way home the better. Just glad Wales provided the whooping they richly deserved.

I tell you what.. Just watching the Portugal match, and looking at the strip they're wearing, when I get to be head of FIFA, there will be a rule - 'International team strips must only include the colours present on the nation's flag'. And I'm not talking 'blue' or 'red', I'm talking Pantone numbers.
And POR vs HUN has suddenly gone chuffing mental.

Looks like England and Germany could meet each other in the semi-final? Not been paying much attention... If the UK votes out today, does that mean that Germany get a pass?
