Hi,

I'm getting annoyed with Vodafone. My broadband has been offline for three days now, and they don't seem to give a stuff. I'm expecting a call at 19:00. If that doesn't happen I'll phone them at 19:15 and I'll be expecting a miracle, or I'll cancel my contract and request a PAC code so I can cut the cord completely, and move to a different provider.

The problem is, I don't know who's most reliable, and I was hoping that you fine ladies and gentlemen would have some wisdom to impart.

I currently have a 76MB connection, (at least when it works) and I think it's free evening and weekend calls, but I haven't used the landline in so long that I can't remember and don't care. My mobile is SIM only, with 4GB of data and unlimited texts and calls.

I'm currently paying £61 p/m and don't want to pay more, if at all possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

:)

Update: they phoned me back, surprisingly just after I contacted them via the web chat feature. Engineer was booked for Monday. After I told them that I'll be leaving, they managed to get an engineer visit for Saturday. Better but still not good enough.

Still looking for alternatives to Vodafone...

I'm with the much derided (by some, not me) BT.
Like you we have a landline number but never use it.
The broadband service has been just fine for me and I've been using it for 4.5yrs now - I moved house 2yrs ago and the switch was fine after BT realised all I needed was a filter to get my service working - I think the BT customer services are a bit rubbich, but the broadband offerings and reliability of the service I can't complain about.
I think I'm on a theoretical max download similar to what you're on.

As your mobile plan is SIM only then BT are worth a look imho.

My latest bill for 76MB broadband and line rental/calls was £46 and you can currently add a SIM only mobile deal with 3MB for £8 or 15MB for £20 though they do change the mobile offers for broadband customers regularly so check their website for what is current.
It may also be worth considering switching your broadband and then waiting for BT to offer you the right mobile deal depending on how your Vodafone deal is structured as BT have offered me the 15MB deal for £15 in the past.
The possible downside is that while my broadband has only failed once (apart from very rare under 15 minute outages) in over 4 years, getting an engineer out can take up to a week in my experience from when you report a problem (and can cost £140 if the issue is after the signal reaches your phone socket).

Having said that apart from the delay in getting an engineer the service and communication was excellent.

I'm with Zen Internet for landline and broadband. I've found them to be very reliable and if they cock it up most of their stuff is on a monthly contract so there's no long tie in. Plus, the call centre is in Rochdale so you're guaranteed not to get shunted to an overseas call centre and the support staff actually seem to know what they're doing and don't work from a script. They are more expensive than average though.
Mobile is SIM only with Tesco (O2). They have some decent deals.

Do Genius supply broadband and mobile for individuals? I don't know why, but I thought that you only dealt with companies.

Cool. Didn't know that. OK, while I'm looking around, what kind of deal could I get for a 76MB connection and also a mobile phone contract, preferably with at least 4GB of data?

:D
