Seeing as there's a Labour thread and now the Tories are electing a new leader it seems only reasonable to have the equivalent thread. Not been paying too close attention so far I have to admit because I can't generally stand them but so far we've probably got: Boris Johnson Theresa May
I think Jeremy Hunt looks like he's throwing his hat in the ring (yay, let's have a leader who managed to get Doctors to go out on strike for the first time in decades).
Any others I've missed so far?
On the one hand I think it should be Boris just so he can have his face ground into the folly of what he promised people but will be spectacularly unable to deliver. Unfortunately that would put Boris in charge and I suspect he'd do a lot of damage while he was there but then that's true of pretty much all of the ones who seem likely to be standing.

It doesn't really matter who it is, they're committing political suicide if they take on the task of steering the UK through the exit process. With that in mind, Boris probably deserves to wreck his future for heading up the Leave campaign, although watching Hunt or May go down in flames would also be worthwhile. It's the only silver lining I can see in this particular cloud.

Yes, it's very much going to be a poisoned chalice whoever gets it. I thought John Olivers description of the situation was quite apt - it's like catching a flying ice-cream... that's been launched into the air because a child has been hit by a car.

I could see it being a compromise candidate from leftfield the party is so divided.
I think Gove has ruled himself out, not that that really means anything, but he's the only one of the big hitters IMO who doesn't inspire derision and hatred amongst... everyone.
It's all incredibly hard to predict at this point with Cameron hanging on for a while anyway. I'd expect the Remain camp to try and get their act together just out of spite alone.

As I see it the Tories have two choices. 1) Go anti-EU and elect Boris 2) Elect a Pro-EU leader will will ignore the referendum result, or hold a 2nd referendum.

Honestly, surely he has way too much of a history in that sense to be PM. If nothing else... There's no way it wouldn't come back to bite him.

He won’t care, though. He’ll bluster it off.

Oh dear. I mean, he might be doing a semi-decent job at Justice but he left a total mess behind him as education secretary. From memory, and I am paraphrasing massively, David Cameron apparently described Gove as someone who enjoys a bit of chaos to shake things up (you know, like the Shadows in Babylon 5). I mean, we've got the chaos already but I don't think we want any more thrown in just for entertainment purposes. Plus, to go totally shallow for a bit, I don't want a Prime Minister who bears an uncanny resemblance to Pob.

That's a bad option. He's alienated so many people in the past, they'd never get reelected.

Gove appears to have killed off Boris's hopes - Mr Johnson has withdrawn from the contest.
