Does anyone collect wine?
There is a guy in the office who isn't particularly computer literate and I've helped him quite a lot while I've been in this job. He does collect wine and has given me a limited edition bottle to say thank you.
It's one of three-hundred that he has, and there were 800 bottles produced of this wine.

Now I need to find some place to store it, and need to read up on what wines can keep and such things. Does anyone have any experience in these matters?

This might sound like a silly question but have you considered asking the guy who gave you the bottle? I'm sure if it's a hobby of his he would be more than happy to give you some "expert advice"

Hope this helps,

John.

Ok some information needed first.

Year of Vintage:

Region of Production:

Grower ideally but not essential.

Grape variety ideally but not essential.

Now I need to find some place to store it, - cool constant temperature is the key to this. low light or darkness is also good ( minimises colour bleaching ) . Horizontal is vital ( keeps cork moist and minimises wine in contact with air via cork)

and need to read up on what wines can keep and such things. D

If you are serious look around for evening classes http://www.wset.co.uk/ the most enjoyable qualifications I ever took :D You have to study really hard with lots of practicals :D

I collect (then drink) whisky. Is that close enough? ;)

John, I would ask the guy, but he gave me the wine just before he left. I managed to get out from him the a cupboard would be suitable storage for a short while until I had a better solution and also the numbers (mine is bottle 281 of a total of 800).

Alun, thnaks for the tips and links, I presume you collect wine in some capacity? Or just enjoy it?

I suppose suggesting that you just drink the stuff is a silly idea, right?

I used to belong to a wine circle, the best thing to do with wine is let it mature, until it has reached its best age, then drink it!

Too warm will kill the wine, too cold as well. It needs a constant temperature and that needs to be cool (between 10 and 20°C?).

If it is worth a lot of money, I might sell it and get a couple of cases of drinking wine... If it is only worth less than a couple of hundred quid, then I'd save it for a special occassion and enjoy it.

Without knowing what the wine is, it is difficult to really give a good answer.

I qualified as a master of wine many many years ago now its purely for enjoyment, I've never collected it as such.
