OK, almost certainly getting a PS3 soon and that requires a new TV, so I've been looking at this one (scroll down for full specs):

37" is as big as I can go in this crappy room, and for the price, this seems to be a really good TV at that size and spec...

Any other suggestions or anything else I should know?

Oh yeah, I won't actually be ordering it from Dixons, getting it for the same price elsewhere - the DSG are fcuking hopeless in every regard :roll:

I've not had any problems with my LG 24" monitor. The screen is bright and the colour reproduction is good, certainly it is better than my iMac.

I suggest you get a demonstration first though.

I know you said 37" and this is 40 but it might be worth a look at. Its a Samsung 5-series with the Crystal Rose paint finish they have on their more expensive range

If I've got this right then the 'LH' letters in the models are 2009 and the 'LG' models 2008. e.g. Richer sounds have the LG3000 for less than the one you're looking at and the LG5000 for about the same money. It might be worth saving a few quid or finding out if the 2008 LG5000 is better than the LH3000 you're looking at?

I recently bought an LG 42LH40xx and am very happy with it. I was a bit wary of spending so much on an LG but after a recommendation and a demo in the shop I went for it. I'm glad I did. Its a very good TV. Upscaled standard definition is handled brilliantly from my BT Vision box and anything HD I've tried so far has been very impressive (360, 720p download e.g. Planet Earth). I might have been a brand snob but I wouldnt be put off by the LG name anymore.

Buy it from Comet if they stock it, but reserve it online - it can be a bit cheaper! We saved £150 on our Samsung LE40 by reserving it online first.

Thanks for the links veato, but it absolutely can't be any bigger than 37" and to put things in perspective, I live in the fcuking house that Jack built ;)

Maybe, but trying to get a complete list of specs and a 1080p set for under £500 seems to be impossible online :?

I should point out that this TV will be mostly used for games and DVDs. So long as it can hack those, I don't really care about day to day TV since my current CRT can't determine signals too clearly, and I don't especially give a sh1t since there's little on worth watching ;)

Yeah, you might struggle with a £500 budget. If you drop to 32" you might squeeze it. If it's for games and DVDs 1080p is by no means essential. Off air pictures are largely crap on HDTVs anyway, so don't worry about that.

This is all very interesting. I’m pondering a TV to replace mine. It’s a 28" Sony Wega, and you have to go some to beat the picture. However, the PS3 and the Mac Mini look crap on it, and I’m thinking I’ll want to do a replacement before the VAT increase.

Sony do a scrappage scheme (unless I can offload the current TV), do other companies offer similar deals?

Still in the planning stages on this one, so I’ll be following this thread with interest.

Cheers, and I know what you mean about 1080p being a bit over rated, but this is the TV that's coming with me when I eventually move out so I'd definitely want the 37" size and 1080p for when I'll actually be sitting further back from it*, and I just can't justify even spending £50 more for something that will mainly be used for fast paced games and films :oops:

* I appreciate all this is subjective, but I'm trying to be as pragmatic for the future with the least amount of thinking and time required here ;)
