I have just discovered that a poster I produced for my band back in 1984 appears to be in the V&A...

AFAICS it's not actually on display, but someone obviously liked it enough to consider it worth adding to the collection. It appears to have come from an exhibition of community printshop work that was on at the Greenwich Mural Workshop in 1986, which originally included several more posters I had produced, but only this one has made it to the V&A.

I'm a little bit gobsmacked...

I'm curious how you found out the poster was in the collection.
Did they contact you, did someone you know flag it up to you or did you come upon it yourself?

I was taking part in a discussion on another forum about how to pick a band name, and mentioned that having a made-up word as a name made you very easily findable on the internet, but only if people were able to spell it correctly.

Of course the next thing I did was to Google "SSURAEA" and that's what I found!

SSURAEA being active in the 80s didn't have to worry about being Google-friendly, but we found that about half of our print reviews, including a live review in "Sounds" managed to spell the name incorrectly. It was even worse when we were played on the radio as only a fraction of DJs ever managed to pronounce it as we intended (BTW it's Su Ray Ah).

The last time I Googled an old band of mine I came across a glowing review of our only vinyl release as part of Johan Kugelberg's all-time top 100 DIY records (we were #34) which led to me being asked to produce a retrospective CD compilation for a US Record Label...

Cunning.
