I'm at the lower end of "normal".
Unfortunately no longer as elegantly wasted as I was in my 20s...

Ha. Healthy. With a BMI of 23.1 All that cake and sugary sweet stuff I eat. Hahaha. BMI is a steaming pile of horse manure anyway.

Ever since I found out about the BMI in medical school, I've hated how it's been used. It was designed for populations and not for individuals. It ignores waist size which IMO is probably more important. I can't recall whether the cut-offs have been adjusted to take into factor change in human physiology (we're taller and naturally heavier than in the 1800s when the BMI was created).
Having said all that, my BMI is 29, down from the 35 it was about eight years ago.

There was a TV Programme called The Men Who Made You Fat on the BBC a few years ago. It looked at the way various companies drove the path to this kind of thing (it looked at the food industry, as well as the diet industry as well). BMI was invented by American health insurance companies to quickly and easily drop people into categories so they could be assessed for insurance purposes. There was no real health data used, and there was little scientific basis for it either. It was all based on probabilities and statistics. And, yes, this was a good few decades ago too.
These insurance companies have so much clout in the health industry there that they were able to persuade the medical profession to accept it as a way to determine if someone is overweight or not.
There are anomalies. Muscles are heavier than fat, so you could be a fit, healthy person with no excess fat, BUT you could be classed as overweight or obese just because you have batter developed muscles.
Sadly, BMI has stuck, even though it’s just not fit for purpose.

I don’t need a test to tell me I’m overweight, I’ve got my family to do that
