Annoyingly I say the word "obvards" and "sozzards" quite a lot. Every time I say it I kick myself, I guess only time will make me stop it. It was an OperaSociety thing last year. I also shake my right hand infront of my neck/right shoulder in a "stop" or "no" kind of way. Hard to describe, and i'm not gonna post a video, but I picked it up from one of my friends who used it to signify that something was pretty awful when conducting orchestra rehearsals. Finally I finish all my texts with an "x". Which doesn't seem too weird, but some guys i've texted have taken it wrong a few times. They're probably the sexually insecure ones, but that's just how my social circle finish texts. We meet and greet with hugs and cheek kisses, european style, so it's normal for me. Guess its not normal for everyone, especially up here in the north! That Indian head-wobble thing I can relate to - I tend to also get quite bouncy when surrounded by asian people as they're all quite bouncy too when they're excited! The happiness just rubs off >.< |

I know that since I met my father in law, now sadly departed, I've been a lot more inclined to be witty. Or at least I'm half way there. You couldn't have a normal conversation with him. Almost everything you said drew a witty retort, so subtle that you almost missed it. I am also pedantic- or more so than I used to be, thanks to the bloke who's my regular partner in work. One thing that I do without realising is pick up on accents. I once had a long conversation with a diving instructor concerning corrective lenses for my mask. My wife was so embarrassed- apparently I spent most of the conversation mimicking his Canadian accent. ![]() |

Ask my sister about something minor and you'll get her entire day in unedited form - the thought process behind it has been bugging me for so long that I do it now ![]() |

I get told off for going "hmm" and raising my eyebrows in the way Data off of Star Trek does. |

My girlfriend invents new words when she can't think what to say, especially adjectives (?) I use some of them in conversation with her, so far not with anyone else but it's only a matter of time until I get some very strange looks ![]() |

Ahh, can't think of a good one... "obflicated" adj. hidden EDIT: I know it would probably would be easier just to think of the word "hidden" but then she just wouldn't be as cute as she is! |

Are you sure she didn't mean obfuscated? As in IOCCC |

Possibly. She was quite annoyed when she found "obflicated" wasn't a word... "I meant hidden!" But I did know what she meant before she explained the meaning to me. |

By pure coincidence, I explained this word to a German friend just last week. It's one of my favourites, along with disconbobulated. I'm terrible at picking up traits from other people, but I can't think of any amusing examples. Here's a few boring ones: I came back from a holiday in London with a Scottish accent, because of a bloke I spent a lot of time with. It's contagious. A couple who were very good friends of mine once told me they had to keep changing their pet names for each other, because I kept using them. Apparently, that's just not right me old shnucklebottom ![]() Rising inflection? You know what I mean? I caught that one from Prisoner? Although I hope I have it under control now? A statement is not a question? Repeated quick little bows when I'm talking to anyone Asian. I caught myself doing it a lot with a Philippine contingent at work, and I don't even know if they do it over there. Several phrases my close friends use. I can't for the life of me remember anything now, but I remember being very annoyed when I caught myself totally ripping off one of KW's expressions quite a few years ago. I doubt anyone even noticed, but it bugged me. Catch phrases. One in particular comes to mind, which is a Murry Walkerism I got from a Play Station game. "Have a word with yourself!" Oh boy, the bloke was full of them: http://www.icelebz.com/quotes/murray_walker/ |
