Does anyone here use it? I just searched for Derren Brown to see what people were saying. People just seem to post the same thing over and over in an attempt to stay at the top of the current "trends". One guy has posted the same message something like 20 times within a couple of minutes. Then there are people who put the trend text (i.e. Derren Brown) and then a link to some dodgy website hidden behind a tiny url style link. I really see no point in Twitter whatsoever. |

Facebook has a point for me in that I can keep in touch with people who I want to keep in touch with. i.e. friends and family. I have close friends who have moved abroad and I wouldn't see or hear anything much if it wasn't through Facebook. The thing that baffles me about Twitter is that unless you're famous then no one really will follow you and if no one follows you then no one reads what you have to say so what's the point in saying it in the first place. If Twitter had a Facebook style friends connection thing going on then I could understand it but it doesn't. Everyone is just random. |

I have never considered using twitter. I did once get a link to a site that rates the current usage of profanity by percentage at http://cursebird.com/. I joined facebook when it was fashionable, now I ignore it. |

Skype requires both parties to be on the computer at the same time with a Skype account and a fairly decent connection. Telephone, I'm not paying to call my friends around the world when I can "speak" to them for free over the web. Letter... you're joking... right? ![]() IM, you mean something like Facebook chat? Email is probably the most sensible alternative but with picture albums etc on Facebook there is no way to replicate that with email. |

I use twitter, but I only have a select few people I follow. That means I don't get too much traffic, so I can generally cope with it. I hate Facebook, it is just too much noise with little or no information. Everything seems to be about quizzes and games. I generally check in once or twice a week, whilst Tweetdeck is always open in a corner of the screen... |

Not true. You can call regular phone lines with Skype too, for a small charge. I’ve saved a packet on phone calls by using Skype for work. A tenner can last me almost a year. |

My reasons are exactly the same for having the exact opposite opinion of both Facebook and Twitter. Twitter just seems to be random people rambling about nothing whereas Facebook I can see information about people that I want to know about because I actually know who they are and have an interest in what they are doing. |

I confess to having been snared into Facebook. I know I was a vehement anti-social networking person, but we all have our moments. I was quite happy being a community member here and in one or two other forums, but now find I spend a fair amount of the day with FB open in a browser, just keeping up with everyone. Yes, it can be annoying, but they've just introduced a new feature where you can block irritating things like quizzes and games without having to block the person that posted it. It makes the place a lot more serene. There's still a lot of noise, but it depends on whether you fastidiously follow every link, or just skim through to the stuff of interest. Twitter. Now, there's a different barrel of monkeys. We were encouraged, in the Bat Cave, to sign up for Twitter to plug our Focal Point thing. Having to block all the pointless spammers is irritating. Most of the time we have nothing to say. I've set it so we follow a few good pro photographers who want to share their knowledge, and a couple of folks follow us, but it's not really going anywhere. I think it's going to drop off the perch soon. I think the facespace page will do the same. |

Truthfully, I try not to use anything where I can't give that one person my full attention - I finds it devalues the interaction. |

I have a twitter account and am ultra selective of my followers and who I follow. One of each category. Very little traffic and totally manageable. ![]() |

I use it a fair bit There are a few people I follow, no-one that famous (going to stop following major nelson in a bit) I tend to use it for sharing a few things and also for when I release new updates on my software (possibly a separate account for that in future though) useful if I'm on the go or just want to quickly update something |

Don't use it, don't want it. Same goes for Myface. How long before the glossy mags feature a few pics and nothing else but summaries of cleb twitter transcipts? Hopefully it will crawl up it's own ar$e and die. Sadly, as with the glossies, that isn't likely to happen. |
