Do you get get one of those "wow" moments where you realise something? I do. I've just watched a documentary on Yesterday about the Estonia ferry disaster. Curious, I looked on Wikipedia only to realise I'd been on that exact ferry several times as it used to sail between Ramsgate and France when it was called the Sally Viking. ![]() ![]() So what coincidences have you gone wow at? |

I was just thinking of starting a coincidence thread. How weird. |

I recently bought the Sunday (and Daily) Mirror for the Star Wars Lego offer. On the second Sunday, there was an article by one of the columnists about a letter she received from a firefighter. The gist of the letter was how health and safety meant that they were not allowed to put their lives at risk in situations for which they are neither trained or equipped. The example given was water rescue- basically, the rules say that they can't rescue someone in water- under any circumstances AFAIK, unless trained/equipped. Of course, I was discussing this with my colleagues and then this week, around twenty miles from where I am based a paramedic- a colleague and friend- goes into a river to rescue a man whom he thought was probably going to die and the Fire and Rescue Service stood around waiting for their boat to arrive. I don't want to debate the issue- this is merely the coincidence thread. |

There's a maritime tradition that says it's unlucky to rename a boat or ship. Take a look at maritime disasters and see how many involve renamed vessels. Just saying... |

Doesn't explain the Herald Of Free Enterprise disaster then. |

RMS Titanic. She was a virgin and everything. ![]() |

There's some compelling evidence that Titanic swapped names with her sister Olympic. The ship that sank may well have been the latter as an insurance scam. It all stacks up, you know. The infamous Mary Celeste was also renamed from Amazon. |

She went down with a lot of seamen. I thought I’d say it before anyone else did. The Titanic, Britannic and Olympic all suffered ignominious ends. |

I read that book, and have read several since that have debunked the theory. Was a good read though! </amateur Olympic Class aficionado> |

Er, the Olympic retired after a successful 25-year career and her role in WWI? ![]() The loss of Britannic was unfortunate, and rather surprisingly she went down faster than her sister, despite all the new protections built-in (a combination of bad luck and the bottom of the ship being blown off I suspect). |

Too many coincidences to list here, mine are mostly people-based. Friends from one circle becoming friends with people from another circle entirely and that type of thing. I also have quite a lot of musical coincidence, I'll be humming a song as I get into my car, turn on the radio and it's the next song played. I see coincidence in my life probably 4 or 5 times a week, so now I call it "synchronicity" I'm obviously in tune, body and mind, with the life I'm leading. |
