http://tinyurl.com/hhrft75Sort it out, love. Joke, joke... Though I have to say, the amount of women I know who'll crow 'these were 50% off!' etc, the results don't really surprise me. And it's not like she won't bloody steal your razor anyway No, seriously ladies, have you noticed what they're talking about there? Maybe you just buy the 'bloke stuff'? EDIT - A rogue character or whatever meant I had to adjust the title and link...

Don't need a dodgy graudain article to know this. Women purchase more than men so of course we do.

There's a fundamental principle here which is this - "Charge what the market will bear." Women get charged more because they've been willing to pay more. The cosmetics & fashion industries are basically run on this idea. There are certain goods I heard listed in a news report on this that are gender-specific - for example, Levi's jeans are cut differently for men and women so you might expect some variation there - but there's no reason on God's earth to pay more for a child's scooter just because it's painted pink.
This is not sexism per se - They're not putting the price up because they're for women, they're putting the price up because women seem (or at least seemed) happy to pay more for products that are marketed this way. It's basically a tax on naivety, not gender.
Stop buying the silly marketed stuff and buy the cheap 'non gender specific' alternatives where possible and it'll stop happening. It's that simple.

My wife uses men's razors - at least I hope so!

I can usually tell when my wife uses men's razors - my face gets ripped to shreds the next time I have a shave.

This is, I think, only partly true. It's probably true that men are more likely to accept a piece of 'quantitative' marketing in that way, but that's certainly not the only form of marketing men's razor ads use. Almost inevitably the ad script goes something like this - 1) Picture of new razor rotating with added on gleam and lens flare - implication : 'Look how shiny and new it is !' 2) Video of male model shaving with new razor - implication : 'if you shave with this razor you'll be as handsome as this guy!' 3) Another picture of razor rotating in some fashion with more lens flare and voice-over with some ludicrous quantitative claim - 'Look how shiny and new and 23.5% better it is!' 4) Man finishes shave and rinses off/ dries face with towel and as he does so attractive female model walks into shot, smiles and strokes his newly shaved chin - implication : 'If you shave with this razor, women who look like this will want to sleep with you!' OK, the message is positive - 'using this thing will make you more attractive' - rather than negative - 'not using this thing will make you less attractive' - but the basic fact is simple : quite a lot of cosmetic and grooming products are sold on the implication of sex, to both genders. Some are more blatant than others *cough* lynx deoderant *cough* but it's pretty much there in all of it. The one thing male cosmetics/grooming ads don't have yet is the whole ageist thing - 'If you buy this product it will make you look younger!'. I suspect that's because the current older generation (say 50+) of men are still fairly undoctrinated about cosmetics & etc in the main. As the current 20-somethings who have been exposed to male-centric cosmetics advertising since pre-puberty grow older, we'll see more of that particularly unwelcome form of emotional blackmail in men's cosmetics too. We get it a bit with things like male grey hair dye, but not to anything like the degree it's battered into women's heads every day.

Baby cotton wool pads are cheaper than the ones they put in the adult section
