Where's a good place to buy sunglasses?

I'm looking for functional glasses that offer good protection against snow glare, I don't want to pay over the odds for a pair of plastic Oakleys, unless of course, they look really cool. Where can you a) try them on and b) not get ripped off by high-street tax?

You see, no one knows, there's a gap in the market here.

I bought my last 2 pairs of Ray Bans from The Sunglasses Hut at Heathrow Airport - I lost the first pair, then found them wedged under the drivers seat of my BMW, when I was cleaning it out before selling it

How about a good online optician. They do sunglasses and you can see what you look like in them before you buy.

One link to get you started in your search.

I like Ray Bans, but they're expensive for what they are, think I may have to go to Manchester and find a pair I like then go on the internet and look for the cheapest price, it works for eveything else, plus it annoys the salesmen :)

OOOOhh cheers CC.

I lose or break sunglasses all too frequently, so I don't like to splash out on fancypants designer ones. If they're for skiing and/or mountaineering (as mine mostly are) I recommend buying them from your destination. I find that 30-50 europoundingtons will get you a good pair of polarised, UV protective glasses.

I got some aluminium "Calvin Klein" sunglasses from TK Max. They seem to work though, mostly used for driving when the sun is annoying.

I've got some polarising sunglasses from Specsavers. Although they cost £185 so maybe a bit much. Oh, and they're prescription glasses.

I thought some of these prices looked quite good. I suppose it depends how much you wanted to spend though.

I like Oakley’s Half Shell XL ‘s

Currently on my 3rd pair
1st I got in the UK and then lost in Cape Town - Was a bit drunk so not sure if left them in a bar or had them lifted from my bag
Replaced them in Cape Town ( about 30% cheaper than the UK price) and even claimed the tax back.
Lost these in the UK when moving house – no ide what happened to them
Replaced them by buying on line and saved about 20% off high street prices

Best is to go into SunGlass hut etc – try loads on until you find one you like and then look online to buy them to save the dosh

Rudy Project make some nice ones, pair I've got have interchangeable lenses, so you can use different ones, depending on what you're doing and what the weather's like.

I got prescription sunglasses from Specsavers "for free" last time. I made the mistake of choosing a pair so dark they make a glorious sunny day feel like winter, and the glare around the edge is really annoying even if you want it to be that dark.

My next pair will be wrap-around and adjustable. Or maybe I'll just inject squid ink into my cornea; that would be cool.
