I thought about the mechanics of making these after I saw the first X-man movie. I realised the difficulty lay not in activating them but in retracting them. They're better than the 'wolverine claws' video which are bascially glorified knuckledusters.

You want to be able to retract them almost as quickly as deploying them.

Reminds me of people trying to make the "hidden blade" from Assassin's Creed after the game came out lol.

I have actually seen that weapon before. I don't think I remember the user having to cut a finger off to use it.

The claws are pretty lethal looking but they're not hugely impressive in movie prosthetic terms. Not bad for something 'knocked up in me shed' though.

I think the blade from Assassin's Creed went through the gap left by the missing finger... maybe because it could be used less obviously...

However shots from the sequel (well, the trailer for it) hint that the new design will be more like the "proper" design as such and merely come from beneath the wrist.
