It's still October and yet already Argos and SCS are both doing Xmas-related adverts!

Anyone else already starting to feel fed up? I truly wish Xmas festivities were not allowed to start until Dec 1st.

Tesco's have had their Christmas advert on for some time.
I noted that a local municipality have festooned the high street with lights and red tinsel. In preparation for my birthday, I assume.

It's Valentine's, then Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Second Cousin's Day, <insert random US imported "special day">, Hallowe'en, Bonfire Fortnight, and back round the SpendFest again.

And we're increasingly being told it's the "holiday season" rather than Christmas. We may as well just join them all up and celebrate everything all the time.

Last year since everyone was having a credit-crunch inspired Christmas we went for a 'lean' Christmas, not too many decorations, not 5000 presents etc etc.

And you know what? It was the best Christmas we'd had in ages because everyone could concentrate on having a good time and enjoying each other's company instead of getting stressed out with the workload.

We liked it so much we're going for another small Christmas this year.

Better make the most of it, before any more misguided local authorities decide to try and ban it for fear of offending non-christians - like Birmingham.

Why not have a Charity Shop Christmas? Buy all your presents from charity shops. Tell your friends and family that that is what you are going to do, and encourage them to do the same.

Public backlash normally sorts that out. About 5 years ago Cornwall County Council put a sign up on the road into Truro near the old Richard Lander school saying "Winterval celebrations blah blah blah". Within days the council was forced into a grovelling apology :twisted: :twisted:

Thorntons have had some of the Christmas chocolate on display since September!! It's just ridiculous!!

Kicking up a fuss at work as well, I don't want the Christmas decorations up until the start of December tbh, I don't see the point before then!! But, it's not Christmas until the Coca-Cola adverts start though :D

I was in Costa Coffee in Peterborough city centre this afternoon. While I was waiting in the queue I could swear I could hear a Christmas song.
Right enough the guy behind the counter confirmed this was true. The CD had arrive that morning so he'd stuck it on. One of the other folk behind the bar pointed out that this was likely to make some customers grumpy (if not violent).

It's too damned early I tell you.

I put my Christmas tree up on the 1st and use the same decorations every year. As for presents my family have been minimalist for years about them. We do not bother any more. It saves on having to buy presents for everyone else or change the presents that you get from them. It is all far too commercial. We all send cards to let each other know that we are thinking of them.

It's completely made up by the sort of people who treat the Daily Mail as if it's talks sense.

What they did try to do was introduce a non specific festival to encourage people into the town centre to spend like it was going out of fashion.
