I did a 10k run on Saturday but it was a "military style" 10k run which comprised running flat for about 2 k then up the side of a hill onto a moor across the top for about 2 k through the cloud where every step you would sink up to your ankle. Then down for about 1k then through flat mud again the rest of the way with some cargo nets to crawl under and bog pits to contend with.

Did that in 1hour 4minutes :D Woot!

So, I'm doing a flat 10k road race at the end of November. What's a reasonable time to aim for?

For a first 10k, 50 mins would be a good time - you have to learn so much in your first few races, such as pacing yourself and not letting adreneline take over, how to dodge past slower peolpe etc. and that slows you down.

I think 45 mins would be a good time to aim for to start with - 27 mins for your 6km runs.

If you want to you can check what some 10k results are, perhaps look at ukresults web site, scroll down the race results and look at the 10k's and see where most people come in. Often the winner will be about 21 or 32 mins, 37 mins is good going -quite tough, and 45 mins where most people are.

If you are trying to get faster times then you stop running for so much fun and more to race.

ROFL, I just found these pics online :D

CLICKY!

::EDIT:: That's odd, it wasn't working. Try this one and search for 209 (that's my race number).

That's me after falling shoulder deep in mud
