I've just had a look at the PCPro Forum and well, it's sad to see. The last thread on the first page of the Meeting Place is from September and the colour scheme is awful. Am I the only one sorry to see it end up like that?

No, you're not the only one. From what I saw, those few that joined after the mass exodus seemed to have a major axe to grind against this place which struck me as being strange.
At the end of the day, Dennis can't be too surprised if they'd spent any time on the forums themselves. Whilst it's sad, I certainly don't have any regrets about how the forum handled it.

I know that it just seems sad that a lot of people put a lot of time into that place and now it's been pretty much gutted. A bit like the Labour Party....

If it's any consolation, the MacUser side of the divide is still fairly active. But then, they'd always been the quieter set, and those who'd never ventured into the old Meeting Place remained loyal to the MU forums.

The comments section on PC Pro is even awful now too - it's just a scrollable list of black text on a white background - it's hard to see where one comment ends and another starts when you move it And absolutely nothing about the site is intuitive now, though they did at least get rid of the stupid ads in the middle of the article...

I popped in by mistake the other day on an old computer with old bookmarks. Hardly anything had changed since we left. That was a long time ago now. Oh well

Lets just be thankful / grateful that this place was set up so well by Saspro. Or we would have been stuck with it.

What was created is still alive, it's the community, new host, same people. The forum is like a rippling sand dune that moves across the desert as one distinct being, yet consists of different grains of sand from one year to the next. Dawkins btw.

It's a shame, I still pop over there from time to time to see if people are asking help in the Linux forum. I like this place, but it's not the same as the old place. It's a shame that it had to go the way it did...

I agree. This thread has reminded me how much I miss the old place. Like I said though...

In some ways CustomPC benefited from the purchase of Bit-tech, as the website is no longer embarrassingly out of date. However, the bit-tech forum community just isn't the same.

I lurk over there a fair bit. They seem quite knowledgeable about hardware, but there's an awful lot of bollocks talked as well. The reviews however, seem quite good.
