Hi all,

I'm doing some research for my dissertation, I've had a brief look and would like to ask a question here while I look deeper into the topic.

Basically, my dissertation is about how applications have the potential make a system unstable and to investigate if virtualising all applications is feasible and if so, if it helps. This itself introduces a lot of problems in itself which my dissertation will also address.

The topic which I'm currently researching is if there is anything like it already, I need to be aware of other systems so that at the end I can say if my method is better or worse than other methods used. I can't see anything that specifically virtualises all applications, though I see instances where people might virtualise a single application for various reasons.

Does anyone here know of any systems that do what I'm trying to do?

Thanks for any information,
Ben

Might be worth looking at Citrix Xen Desktop, combined with XenApp for application servers and remote desktops. You package up and virtualise the applications - the version of Windows running on the server (and viewed on your thin client) doesn't have any software installed, but you have a bunch of virtualised applications available.

I'm waiting for a more detailed demo of that from our Citrix provider, but it looked impressive when I saw the presentation last Friday.
