Post subject: | Virtualising applications? |
Hi all, I'm doing some research for my dissertation, I've had a brief look and would like to ask a question here while I look deeper into the topic. Basically, my dissertation is about how applications have the potential make a system unstable and to investigate if virtualising all applications is feasible and if so, if it helps. This itself introduces a lot of problems in itself which my dissertation will also address. The topic which I'm currently researching is if there is anything like it already, I need to be aware of other systems so that at the end I can say if my method is better or worse than other methods used. I can't see anything that specifically virtualises all applications, though I see instances where people might virtualise a single application for various reasons. Does anyone here know of any systems that do what I'm trying to do? Thanks for any information, Ben |

Might be worth looking at Citrix Xen Desktop, combined with XenApp for application servers and remote desktops. You package up and virtualise the applications - the version of Windows running on the server (and viewed on your thin client) doesn't have any software installed, but you have a bunch of virtualised applications available. I'm waiting for a more detailed demo of that from our Citrix provider, but it looked impressive when I saw the presentation last Friday. |
