I hate doing it, and I always feel on edge after I’ve done it. I think it’s because I know the bill that will be 1.5x the annual rate will be with me next month. :(

That's a nice little christmas bonus for you.

Are they paying you any interest on the money (your money) that they've had sat in their bank for several years?..... I thought not.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago.

I owe HMRC nothing, and they owe me nothing. I think that's a win. :?

On the other hand, they reckon I missed about £300 of NI contributions somewhere...

The IR never pay interest on overpayments. They do however often give a 'repayment supplement'. It's a lot like Muslim banks that won't charge interest rates because the Koran forbids it, but charge staggeringly large arrangement fees instead.

It's just a different term for the same thing.

Oh I so wish I had the money to go car shopping.
Mines got 119k on the clock now. The bloody thing had better make it to at least 150k. I really can't afford a newer one at the moment.

119's nothing these days. My mum's got 220 on hers! It did have a new engine at 180 though.

My dad's old 190E Merc lasted to about 200k as well I think. F-reg if IIRC.

If it was a deisel, then I might expect that. I'll be lucky with a petrol though.

Depends on the size, but I'd expect to get at least 150 with any modern engine that's been looked after. I've only had one engine fail on me and that was a 1.1 fiat UNO that I couldn't afford to keep putting oil in! I've had five cars with over 150k miles that drove perfectly, though one needed a new head gasket at about 140, had 160 on it when I got rid and was still going strong.

150k is considered "running in" for Saabs, I'd be surprised to see a regularly cared for car *not* make it to 150k tbh.
