Post subject:  Do you grocery shop online?
Can't be arsed with a poll or anything :P , just curious if you do and why, or don't and why ;)

We do (Tesco) and it's handy for me especially, what with my Coke intake :oops:

And for me personally, there's nothing better than sitting munching on something life-threatening that's just been delivered whilst reading Private Eye :D

Also, if you do grocery shop online, consider putting that Xmas order in NOW if my local Tesco's delivery slots are anything to go by.

By the way, we may have had a similar thread to this already, or in the old place...

EDIT - The above rambling is what happens when I've drunk too much of said fizzy pop :oops:

I've tried Tesco, once or twice, but vowed never to do it again after they sent us 16 Actimel drinks with 3 days left on the Best Before date.

The milk and bread isn't the freshest either.

The local bread here is dead on (to use a local phrase) when delivered, but the Tesco stuff and their milk definitely doesn't have much of a BB date :oops:

Me and my flatmate have started ordering online from Tesco's although it's costing us a bit more... on the other hand it's probably healthier than buying from Iceland every other week :roll:.

The main reason was that we live about 15-20 minutes walk away from Town and all that's there is a Lidl, Iceland or M&S. There's also a Sainsbury's Local around 5-10 minutes away but it's located outside the Student Accomodation and the prices are hugely inflated. With all the latter, me and my friend can't really be asked to go into town every week or so to grab food especially since we don't pass by it on the way to or from Uni. Also we live on the 3rd/4th floor (depending on whether the bottom floor is classed as Ground or 1st :P) and carrying shopping up it is already a pain... sure we have to do it when it gets delivered, but that's in easy to handle trays and not after we've walked the 15-20 minutes or so from Town :D.

+ Not seem to have had any problems regarding poor use-by dates, there was only one time which was referring to a pack of ribs and it was clearly labelled on the bill/receipt/list of goods. As for milk i tend to go for the 2 for £2.50 4 Pint Tesco "Pure Whole Milk", the shop was delivered on Thursday and the Use-By date is the 14th of December which gives me quite a few weeks to drink it =].

The only problems we *have* had were that they delivered a 3 litre bottle of Orange and Pineapple squash instead of straight orange and we didn't notice it until they'd left/finished the first bottle, not too bad since it's getting slowly drunk... Also they managed to add Baby Food into our order for some reason although that was easy to sort out and i was refunded later.

One thing i don't like is how not all items you get in store are on the shelves, like 1.5L cartons of Juice or say multipacks of something else, but there's always an alternative option/substitute that is roughly adequate.

We do Occado here. The food is always well within date and there organic veg box is very good, \its a bit more expensive than Tesco but well worth it for tasty food.

Neither Morrisons or the Co-op do deliveries.

I quite like bustling round the supermarket with a trolley, running down the dawdling pensioners, crashing through the mothers' meetings in the bread aisle, rounding up with a nice chat in the checkout queue.

While I dislike our species, it's nice to know there are still some nice ones out there.

If two (or more) people are talking and blocking the aisles/shelves it is my solemn duty to crash my trolley into theirs and not apologise. I'm a bad shopper but I do prefer to shop in store where I can control both the quality of goods selected and handle them without causing damage (I have been known to refuse a pack of apples because the checkout operator has bundled them past the scanner). I also prefer to shop on my own or with one of the kids - the wife gives me 'that look' if I put anything in the trolley not on the shopping list and two kids + wife is just unmanagable :roll:

Now I'm back in Aber we only shop in Lidl and a little in Morrisons, but back last year I used Tesco and found them very good.

Always wanted to try but felt it was too damn lazy.

When I didn't have a car and I was at uni, I used to do mine on a Sunday morning. Catch the bus at 1030, in ASDA by 1100, out by 1130 and home by 1200. Plus I'd have to walk up to the third floor with fire doors on each level so you'd have to go through lots of doors too. Complete PITA but not impossible.

Nowadays I do my shopping Sat morn asap, usually 8-9am. Means rest of the day is free and most importantly, the car park is still relatively empty so no danger of door-dingers.

When I was unemployed with no car, I used to mostly go to town by bus and carry what I could but I did put in two large orders to stock up on the bulky items. The service was excellent, and I don't recall any real problems.

I do prefer choosing my own items from the shelves, and I usually stop when I'm driving past anyway so I don't have to waste petrol on a special trip.

In addition to choosing the best quality available, the prime advantage of shopping in person is the ability to make your own substitutions when they don't have the item you wanted. I remember a few years ago ordering Tesco on-line for a special party, and they substituted a very large pack of turkey thigh for a very small pack of breast which was the same price. That meant very tiny portions for all the guests...

Don't do the online grocery shopping thing.
It's not a major detour to go to the massive Tesco Extra on the outskirts of Peebo on the way home from work during the week.

I currently pass Tesco on my way home and we tend to shop in person, I like pottering about the shop, taking my time, getting inspired by offers and things I see on the shelves, although if I had my druthers I would shop at about 2am on a Saturday and only stop during the day for bread etc. Can't do that currently, otherwise I'd have to park outside the gate and climb over it to get the shopping back to the house, not a good plan for a normal "big" shop :roll:

No.

We shop in person at a combination of Tesco, Lidl and local market.
