Just a pre poll before we start the main event.

Should games that use playing cards (Hearts, clubs..... Ace to king etc) be counted as one entry ie Playing cards, or should each game be listed separately eg, Poker, Blackjack etc?

I vote for just the one entry.

If we have separate entries for cards, then If darts wasn't included because it was a sport, then why would we include poker?

I vote one entry. It will probably win anyway.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

If card games comes out to be a winner, you could always do a mini-poll on the best card game too!

IMO if we were to include different card games then we would also have to allow different Meccano, Lego and Train-sets. It would become a farce.

I vote one entry.

Agreed. I also agree with the mini-poll suggestion for card games. Apparently I am in an agreeable mood today ;)

I am voting multiple entries, at least for the mainstream ones. There is a huge variety in card games, some of which are automatic playthrough to those that require an immense amount of skill. Whilst they use roughly the same tools, Bridge is a completely different game to Snap

Seeing as we already have a limit on suggestions this will insure we don't get inundated with crap card games, therefore I vote multiple entries.

I'd be inclined to say a single entry would suffice, however, with a little more consideration, that'd be like saying any game that uses a ball should be included under one heading.
Depends on how specific we're willing to be - in the above instance, are ball games better than equestrian events, for instance, is a fair question.
I don't think 'Are ball games better than the 100m sprint?' is a fair question.
So, at the risk of splitting the cards vote, and potentially stacking the deck against them, I'm not sure card games should be included in the single family.

That's very much my thinking.

I hate to raise this argument, but you might say that "a deck of cards" is a toy and "canasta" is a game. In the same way "a ball" is a toy and "cricket" is a game.

However, I would like to put it to you that "Let's play cards" is a perfectly normal thing to suggest before then deciding which rules to play.
You wouldn't say "Let's play ball" and then decide which ball. Balls are different for different games.

Staying with that analogy, you might say that "Top Trumps" and "Happy Families" should be listed separately because they do not use standard decks and they are commercially very different to the classic card games.

I voted "single entry", and I think that should include any games played with one or more standard decks. I also think it's my favourite to win; a deck of cards is an awesome thing to have when you're bored.

I know, I know, I'm really tired though and I haven't been thinking properly all day.
