Our old fake one lasted 15 years and was completely plastic so no issue with pine needles etc. The new one we've had has plastic pine needles but all the branches can be bent into position. It makes a little mess but no as much as a real one would.

When I was a kid we had a fake one but then one year we got a real one and haven't looked back. Normally get a Nordman Spruce (at least I think that's the variety). It holds onto the needles very well, even with a bonkers dog periodically trying to get under the tree.
Like the smell as well. Mmmmm, pine fresh.

I've always had a fake one, it's never looked "god awful", not compares to some of the real ones I've seen where people have been too busy to get one and leave it until the last minute.
I've just bought a fake tree for me and the purple one's first Christmas together. It doesn't look bad, a bit bare from the lack of decorations we have. But some of the monstrosities you can get. In Argos you could buy a 'pop-up', ready decorated Christmas tree! Where's the fun in that!?

Real one, they smell lovely. I wonder how many eco mentalists are draining the national grid dry with thousands of lights and are having a fake tree made out of plastic shipped all the way from China.

I'm not a fan of "real trees". I don't like watching things die in my house. I'm not really a fan of cut flowers for the same reason.
Fake trees make so much less mess and generally look less sick, especially if like some people you have them up for a whole month.
This year, I probably won't bother getting mine out. I only bought it because my ex wanted one, so quite frankly it's rather depressing.
I voted pie. Pie is good.

Had a fake one 20 years or so, same one from memory, less hassle of cleaning up the bits, and with a dog safer so she doesnt breathe in the needles
