That's right, we're having a competition.

Design a logo for this site.

Host entries somewhere and link to them in this thread.

The winner will be decided by a good old fashioned vote by everyone.

Closing date is Friday the 1st May 2009 @ midday.

The logo must have x404 in it somewhere .
Colours must be web safe and you must be able to produce a 300dpi copy (I'm thinking t-shirts & mugs to sell on here)

The Mod's decision are final

I may think of any other rules I feel like whenever I like, such as extending the deadline if there isn't enough interest.

The winner will win bragging rights, a special forum level (when such thing exist) and the pleasure of knowing their idea will be all over the internet.
I may even try and find a prize if I have time.

I'll have a go!

Can you tell us where the name (x404) came from? And also, are there any size limitations on the logo?

I'll probably give it a whirl, providing I'm not doing other bits (here or anywhere).

I'm going to leave this to the perfeshunalls and then vote when the time comes. :D

X404 came about because I wanted a short domain and X & 404 seemed suitable techie and cool.
It was a domain I had sitting around doing nothing and was easy to type.

I have seen since the answer to that question, (sorry - I'm still finding my way around this new look forum) but I am unsure of the maximum size of the new logo, and also whether the writing to the right of the logo will remain, or do you want that incorporated as well?

The writing will go, the logo will need to scale to a proper size.
I might even do something tech related with the non forum part of this site so that'd be cool if it worked for that.

More or less anything goes. The forum design will change so the logo may well play a major influence in the design.

Ok, so I'm thinking.. something that reflects the forums multi platform user base, (Windows OS/X, Linux, etc) possibly based on a generic technical theme...

I know that the word competition was mentioned, but I'm trying to get some creative ideas flowing here, and a general discussion about the direction not only of the logo, but maybe the look of the forum isn't a bad thing, is it?

That's a great start JV, with some polishing that could look really good.

I'm going to sit back and wait for voting on this one, but I'm hoping that with some professional designers amongst us the standard will be high!
:D

I'm crap at art, but I'll have a go.
It might need tarting up from the idea I submit though.

EDIT

Finished.

EDIT 2

Entry withdrawn because it was pants.
