The Grauniad's running a thing on their site, asking what people would change about this time of the year. For example, does it annoy you Christmas has become so commercialised? Does advertising aimed squarely at children get your goat? Do you think the religious message of Christmas is being swamped by commercialism? I'm interested in what you'd like to change, if you could. |

Unless you're an essential service, (nurse etc) you should be allowed to finish at midday on xmas eve and have the 25/26th off. |

That's easily solved - move to Australia. I've grown to really dislike the rampant commercialism of it all. It begins far too early in the year, normally before the autumn has kicked in. Everyone feels so pressured into spending money they don't really have in order to buy presents no-one really needs and food that won't get eaten, all for a couple of days around the winter solstice. If I was a Christian, I'd be very worried that a birthday celebration has overtaken the much more important crucifixion, death and rebirth thing in the springtime... Personally, I'd like to see all the religious claptrap removed and we get back to simply feasting and celebrating the turning of the year. |

Scrap the [LIFTED] thing altogether. It's all bollocks so why bother with the stress and waste and false smiles and expense and all the rest of the trappings that go in to this time of year. Mark |

Christmas is for kids really but I still get that excited feeling on Christmas day. For me it's about relaxing and spending time with family and enjoying some good food ![]() If I could change anything I would try and make it less commercial but that will never happen. |

I think Christmas sales should happen in December. That way you don't feel ripped off when you spend loads of money on gifts and then see them all for half price in January. |

Didn't Cromwell try to do that in the 17th century? The problem was everyone ignored him and carried on anyway. |
