Does anyone use Hotmail any more?

I think the whole thing has been hacked.

I know my account has (I wasn't too bothered as I haven't used it in over 10 years) but just looking through my emails now and it appears that every email I have received from every person I know is virus type email that has been auto generated :D

I'm currently trying to work out how to permanently delete my account :D

*checks*

Mine seems to be fine. My last 4 emails were from genuine ones from Microsoft and I've had no spam for a couple of weeks.

It's likely that a virus is responsible, probably one of your contacts.

Do you use your Hotmail as your MSN login?

I haven't used MSN in around 10 years.

The reason I'm trying to do this now is that I just got a Facebook message from a friend telling me I am spamming porn to them on MSN.

I can't fricking cancel my account either as it thinks I still have a subscription service?!

Hotmail isn't perfect by any means but i cannot stand gmail so it's still my email thingy of choice. I can never get Outlook style applications to work, I get junk mail but only 1 or 2 a day, annoyingly though they're all very similar in wording so I reckon Microsoft could improve the filter.

If your account's been compromised, then maybe changing the password might help? Make it ridiculously long and complicated, and be sure to set your "secret questions".

TBH I just want to delete the account.

I haven't used it in years and never will.

I have already deleted all the contacts from the account so I think my next step will be to change the password.

The only one I've tried with Hotmail was Zimbra desktop. Worked a treat for me

i use hotmail with entourage on OS X
thunderbird on XP SP3
evolution on Ubuntu

all seem to work well using these settings …

Quote:
Find below the Hotmail POP3 and SMTP Settings information, to configure your preferred e-mail client:

* POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
* POP SSL required? Yes
* User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com or (.co.uk)
* Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
* SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25)
{Note: If port 25 has been blocked in your network or by your ISP, you can set SMTP port to 587 with TLS or SSL Encryption depending on the client in use}
* Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
* TLS/SSL required? Yes

As mentioned above, make sure to check the box that indicates that your outgoing server requires authentication as in most e-mail clients, this is not checked by default. Also, Hotmail POP3 service requires that you use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) with the POP and SMTP connection and use SMTP authentication. This is to ensure that your e-mail address and password are not subject to tampering.

Just PMed Oliver, as there was an IM spam waiting for me, when I got to work this morning.

My mail account seems fine, no spam in my inbox and nothin in sent. There again, I had to shorten my password as it was too long for Hotmail :lol:

I have Hotmail, Yahoo, GMail, my Apple me account and a private domain. I prefer me.com to the rest, the private domain using Mail on the Mac is second, then Hotmail through Outlook. I haven't sent a single mail with GMail yet - and I've only ever received the welcome messages from Google themselves, I needed to get the account to test some of their other products.

Yahoo and AOL are the same, I got those for Flickr and AOL IM respectively.

I do use hotmail, but only as a spam account. ie if I have to give an email address to download something, I give then my hotmail address and they can spam it all they want. I don't have any addresses in my hotmail address book so if it does get hacked it can't send emails to my friends.

we still have about a foot of snow on the drive
even digging it out results in the car sinking deeper as it moves further forward

no gritting in my area at all
we used 20KG of salt to clear the foot path and driveway over the last 3 days
but sadly no shops have any more salt, its a QED situation …
