A friend of mine has Cystic Fibrosis (sp?) and has been waiting for a double lung transplant for 4 years with no luck. She has always put on a brave face and done loads of stuff (including a 5km fun run (walk)) for charity.

Over the past couple of weeks she has been getting worse and had to be moved back into hospital before xmas.

Last night she crashed completely and it was decided not to resuscitate her! :(

By some miracle she managed to come back out of it on her own!

Then at 11:30 pm last night she received the call and went into surgery for a transplant!

I've had some close calls in my life (nearly bumping my car, near falling over a step, etc...) but that has to be the most extreme I've ever heard of!

She is in ITU atm and we've had no news as yet but she won't be woken until tomorrow anyway.

Just thought I'd share!

(I only found out about the crash after I found out she went into transplant).

I wish your friend all the best. It makes most of our troubles seem rather petty by comparison, and is a painful reminder that we only have one body and one chance at this life. We really should try to make the best of it!

If I let everything I deal with get to me, I'd go insane. Sometimes I think I've become hard, but I just have to accept that sh*t happens.

Nonetheless, when I hear about an individual's story, I am touched in some way and I know I'm not totally heartless. I wish your friend all the very best. It is so remarkable that a transplant has come at such a crucial time. I hope it works out.

Crikey, the stunts you have to pull to get a transplant these days are just ridiculous.

Best of luck to your friend Oliver, although she sounds like a fighter so hopefully she won't need luck. :)

LOL, I know what you mean.

It almost makes you think that the health care service hold off as long as possible before giving someone a transplant.

If they suddenly had one instantly available for her now then why has it taken 4 months and her almost death to get to that stage?
