Great stuff, the only worthwhile thing on TV over Christmas/New Year.

RTD may not be able to write anything more than über-camp dialogue but DT will be missed in the role.

Yeah I thought DT was a fantastic Doctor - pity this ending was sooo long though - like a retirement tour - could have knocked a good 20 mins off and would still have been good.

I remain to be convinced about this new guy.

I thought it suffered from 'Lord of the Rings Syndrome'. There were about 4 points where it could have ended and been perfect but they decided to play it on and on and on and as a result frankly I was bored to death of it by the time the regeneration actually happened. There really wasn't any need to bring back all the previous associates for cameo appearances. That was completely over melodramatic. A better ending would have been just to take the 'Donna' ending and throw the other assistants parts out.

Having said all that I did like the central concept. The idea that the Time Lords have essentially been driven suicidally mad and are now the greatest danger that exists in the universe is a nice idea. Although Tim Dalton did chew the scenery a little the whole thing was pretty well done. John Simm was sufficiently maniacal and the whatever-the-hell-they-were with the spines were a nice comedy element.

Overall, good Doctor Who but slightly short of the best of the Tennant period. I still don't know about the young bloke but I think it'll at least be fair to give the bloke a chance when it comes back round.

Finally watched it .
I have to admit I loved it ,but now have that sad feeling like I had with Firefly ,you just wanted it to go on and on ,
still we will give the new guy a chance as we have done from episode one hiding behind the sofa .

p.s. I loved the good bye bit's and yes It brought a tear to my eye.   ;)

I think the trick with a new Doctor is not to compare him with a previous incumbent. You have to start afresh. It}s a hard thing to do, especially when the previous Doctor was so very popular and entertaining.
