Seems a few of us are foodies so why not share tried and tested recipes here. I was baking up a storm over Xmas made a couple of Nigella's recipes and they were absolutely gorgeous! Double choc chip cookies: http://www.nigella.com/recipe/recipe_de ... px?rid=117I didn't make the mint glaze but they were lovely without. Chocolate cloud cake: http://www.nigella.com/recipe/recipe_de ... px?rid=252

Well, this evening I shall mostly be making a curried pumpkin soup. Not got a recipe, but will probably use an onion, a couple of potatoes, the pumpkin, a bay leaf, some curry powder and some cumin.
Been eating a lot of beef stew with the weather as it is recently. Stewing steak, onion, garlic, a bottle of ale, a bouquet garni and in the slow cooker for 6 hours, delicious.

Ah but because I've been good and lost weight recently I can afford to be a bit naughty - a little bit of what you fancy is good for you

Wouldn't a Pea & Ham soup actually need ham in it?

 | | | | Quote: AlwaysInformed: Bacon Scientifically Cures Hangovers April 23, 2009
It’s no secret that a warm Bacon, Egg & Cheese sandwich is many people’s go-to fix for a hangover, but why? A team of researchers at Newcastle’s University Centre Life decided to investigate this correlation. They found that food, in general, helps cure hangovers because it speeds up the metabolism so that the body can quickly rid itself of the alcohol. Is this the greatest scientific discovery ever, or what?
But, bacon, in particular, has a scientifically special place in the hearts of the hungover. This is because “a complex chemical interaction in the cooking of bacon produces the winning combination of taste and smell which is almost irresistible”—even to vegetarians! It’s the “reaction between amino acids in the bacon and reducing sugars in the fat [that] provides the sandwich with its appeal.” So the next time you crawl out of bed and head for the deli, you might be better off heading to the kitchen, since the smell of sizzling bacon is almost as therapeutic to your headache as the indulgent ingestion of the crispy swine. Either way, sounds like science is simply proving something us Hungry Hippos have known, and practiced, for an awfully long time. | | | | |

heat overn to 180c whole shoulder of lamb 8 small onions head of garlic 8 sprigs of thyme olive oil rub skin of lamb with oil and season put onions in a large cassarole, splash with oil, bit lamb on top. Stick in oven for 15-20 minutes so the lamb takes a little colour put lid on, turn heat down to gas 1/4 (mine only goes down to gas mark 1 - still worked fine) after 5 hours (yes - 5!) add 250ml balsamic vinegar, remove lid and cook for another hour put on top of hob on low heat, skim off fat and reduce what's left to a nice jus serve with mash potato
