Looks like there is a disagreement between the director and MGM about how much CGI is to be used.

I like the idea that the director wanted to do as much “in camera” as he could - which seems to be a trend (Star Trek, new Batman films used a lot of old school tricks). MGM wants big CGI. Remaking Robocop is something that should not happen - the original is great.

Thing is, whilst I agree that the original is a classic, you and I have no control over whether or not these things get remade. Fact is, a ton of the kids buying cinema tickets no are not old enough to remember Robocop and I can see why the studios want to do these remakes. However, if they have to remake things, they could at least try to do it well!!

Aronofsky in my view, is a freakin awesome choice for Robocop, but I can't see a Darren direct movie appealing to the studio for big bucks. Same old.

Robocop is just as good today as it was when it came out. I watched it just the other day, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The first one was epic, the second was OK and the third was crap IMO. Don't mention the TV series.

For me the RoboCop films are a lot like the Highlander films : the first one is a flawed masterpiece and the sequels shouldn't have happened.

Is there any chance someone will actually write some new films instead of keep remaking films that are perfectly fine?

I hate the multiple remakes that have been going on. It's quite clear Hollywood have had no new ideas for over a decade.

I watched a Robocop film (think it was no 3?) and it was still enjoyable.

The first TV series, or the second mini series, which wasn’t too bad given the direction the franchise was going?

What would you consider a new idea then? There's only so many stories in the world.

There are loads of stories. Let imagination and creativity be the key. Not rehashing old stuff. Or at least wait 30 years before redoing it.

Christopher Booker says there's 7 - Overcoming the monster, Rags to Riches, The Quest, Voyage and Return, Comedy, Tragedy, Rebirth

Ronald Tobias says there's 20 - Quest, Adventure, Pursuit, Rescue, Escape, Revenge, Riddle, Rivalry, Underdog, Temptation, Metamorphosis, Transformation, Maturation, Love, Forbidden Love, Sacrifice, Discovery, Wretched Excess, Ascension, and Decision

George Polti reckon's it 36 -
    Supplication
    Deliverance
    Vengeance of a crime
Vengeance taken for kindred upon kindred
    Pursuit
    Disaster
Falling prey to cruelty or misfortune
    Revolt
    Daring enterprise
    Abduction
    The Enigma
    Obtaining
    Enmity of kinsmen
    Rivalry of kinsmen
    Murderous adultery
    Madness
    Fatal imprudence
    Involuntary crimes of love
    Slaying of a kinsman unrecognised
    Self-sacrificing for an ideal
    Self-sacrifice for kindred
    All sacrificed for a passion
    Necessity of sacrificing loved ones
    Rivalry of superior and inferior
    Adultery
    Crimes of love
Discovery of the dishonour of a loved one
    Obstacles to love
    An enemy loved
    Ambition
    Conflict with a god
    Mistaken jealousy
    Erroneous judgement
    Remorse
    Recovery of a lost one
    Loss of loved ones

My point is, there isn't some endless well of tales to tell. Sooner or later, you will end up rehashing something else.

It’s not the story you tell, but the way you tell it. For example, Roobocop is a Frankenstein story, which can be traced back to the story of Pygmalion (not the GBS play, but the Greek story). If you want to tell such a story, why not try something new, not warm over someone else’s take on it?
