Next summer i will be taking off to take part in a 3 months Engineers Without Borders project in rural India.

First question: has anyone been there? (I will be staying in the region surrounding Mumbai)

Secondly: Does anyone know of good companies/places to contact to get deals on hiking gear, first aid kits, mosquito nets etc?

Thirdly : Would anyone be fluent in marathi?

Never been there, but many of my friends have. To quote from a book I once read, "amazing country, but gives you the [LIFTED] like you wouldn't believe."

I've not met anyone who's been who didn't find it absolutely incredible.

Friends have been. One went twice, the second time was quite eventful. (See sig.)

Never seen the attraction personally.

I hope that as we are staying far from Mumbai there won't be any problems. *fingers crossed*

There was a thing on the news recently about the law changing on victims of terrorist attacks in other countries. May want to see if it will apply retrospectively for people like William.

The school I will be teaching in is near Pune in Maharashtra. However we'll get students from all over India so I've been told that they will speak a lot of different language. However Marathi seems to be the main one there.
