Mock the Week starts this Thursday, but unlike other series, it is a 6 week run. Expect other satirical programmes to be absent or curtailed. Schedulers are having to guess when an election is likely to be called, and work to fit programmes around that possible date. There are rules about what can and can’t be broadcast during an election campaign.

A curious casualty is Time Team. By now, we will be watching Tony Robinson, a few crusty historians and some history students frolicking in the mud. Not so - C4 want to put it in a decent time slot, but have general elections to worry about. Programming for the election would impact on possible Time Team slots.

I am expecting TV to get more bland as the weeks continue, especially in the satirical slots, though I would imagine that an election is a few months off.

It is very evident that the campaign has started already.

Well it's got to happen by the first week of May, and there's minimum campaign periods etc. etc.

Apparently March is most likely which would mean no budget from the current government.

Once again I can sit back and enjoy the smug glory that is 'not owning a television'

Generally speaking, those places that have compulsory sufferage also have a 'none of the above' option on the ballot paper. The places that don't have that are usually the ones that have one name on the ballot paper...
