Does it mean that he wants to make 3D versions of the 6 Star Wars films? Or new films?

If it's the former....don't bother. Get on with something new!

Evolve???

Lucas' constant rehashing is more like inbreeding.

My bet is that he will want to re-do all the special effects again, and drop in the live Action sequences with depth. It sounds like a highway to disaster if you ask me.

I remember some of the fanboy fury over the SEs, and I think that was before the net had become anywhere near as popular in use as it is today

I can't even watch the prequels the CGI is that intrusive IMO...

3D Star Wars? Now that I would pay good money for!
(Providing he did all six)

But it'd likely only be the CG sequences. None of the rest of it was shot with 3D in mind so it'd still be 2D.

Well they are going to broadcast the rugby games from Twickers in 3D this year into dozens of 3D cinemas.

The prospect of a large winger running flat out at me I find rather worrying.

A half arsed effort on his part then. Surely a bit of computer wizardry could turn the 2D scenes into 3D

I’d say that that is feasible, as long as the artificially introduced relief in the converted 2D objects fit in.

I swear George Lucas has been on about 3D Star Wars for ages... along with releasing them all on blu-ray... :?

There are also those rumours that he has high resolution scans of actor’s faces taken at the time of filming.

Knowing Lucas, I suspect it'll be a re-do. Really, he should set out to make eps 7-9 in 3D. THAT would be worth paying for.
I don't have a problem with the '97 specials, they are the ones I saw first and the originals, look a bit shash to me. But I'm aware that in geek circles that opinion is heresy. However, they should be left alone now.

Cameron has shown the industry something with Avatar and no doubt plenty of people will want to try it (apart from Michael Bay, but however much I love The Rock, he's not in the same league in my book). I don't want to see it as a gimmick - I want to see it as part of an immersive experience.
