Post subject:  Burgled...
Well the night before last some prick came in through a door that another prick (one of my housemates) left unlocked.

They took the keys, wallet and passport of a guy who was in the house for the first night.

Last night they were back and, using the keys they took, got into the house and took the TV.

Strangely the left the broadband router which was probably worth more than the TV?!

Makes me wish I had stayed up all night with a baseball bat waiting for them to come in.

I half knew they would anyway.

+1 but his mate shouldn't have left the door unlocked either.

Agreed but that was the landlord's decision.

Luckily nothing of mine has been taken so I haven't lost out but I am currently waiting for the police and a lock smith before I go out to work and leave the house empty for the tossers to come back and have an open bar.

That's the thing... the TV belonged to the landlord >.<

I agree though. The new guy's freeview box was taken as well. I don't know what he's going to do/ask for that though.

We might be asking for extra locks on the doors also. (Bolt locks etc...) for extra security.

But dude, technically it's isn't burglary. They actually used the keys.

And like Mark said, the police will tell you that you should have changed the locks. They'd give you a police number, but nothing will get done about it.

Just a good lesson learn't the hard way.

They didnt break in granted but they entered illegally (without permission) and certainly had intent to steal

The thing is I have learnt the lesson previously. Hence why none of my stuff was nicked.

There's nothing like good housemates to put you through this again.

I'm sure the doors will never be left unlocked again.

Was it one of those silly doors you had to lock?
I much prefer doors that, once closed, you need a key to open...Yes it's a pain when you swing the door shut and moments later you remember the keys are still on your bed...But you don't do it often as to avoid the hassle!

Have you taken the opportunity to hand out a good thrashing to the pillock who left the door unlocked in the first place?

If they want to get in, they will, but few will turn down an open invitation.

That stuff is highly unlikely to be insured seeing as you left the door open too.

Should have closed the door and locked it, then smashed the window in and called the police. All would have been insured then.
