Well it has landed. It is Mac and PC friendly. Is it for you?

I have some reservations about the iPad. Without a full review by someone who isnt completley absorbed in to the Jobs collective its a bit of of undecided.
I was expecting something that didnt look like the iPhone/Itouch's ugly big brother. maybe my expectations of a company that design wise has delivered consistently good looking equipment was set a bit too high.

But then again I was like that about the iPhone and I have gone through every iteration since launch..also my bonus comes through in march/april and my wife has all ready said "so when are you getting one"

It is a niche product. It is somewhere between a Smartbook and a Netbook.

It is certainly very nice, but I can't see a use for it at the current time. I'll wait and see, but with an iPhone and a laptop, I can't see the need to lug it around. Maybe when I need a new laptop, it could be a replacement type device, but I'd want a decent screen resolution - at least 720p.

iPie.

I don't currently have a need for this thing. I shall do what I always do, and let the dust settle for a while. That gives time for the hype to dissipate a little, and for real people to come up with ways of using it.

There's a lot of noise developing (heh) from photographers who can see potential as a portable portfolio, and as an added value item for wedding photographers to sell with stills and video from the day on the thing.

The pricing seems about right to attract people. Once the iPhone app developers have started working their magic, I guess iPad will take off in directions not even Apple have considered yet.

Don't like the name, though.

Looks like an iPhone for people with really poor eyesight (without the phone and camera) :)

I guess like everything with an Apple logo on it, it'll sell like hotcakes to those who thing everything Apple make is the best thing since sliced bread (I wonder what the best thing was before sliced bread??).

At the moment I have better things to spend my non existent money on but, as a wise man once said, never say never...

No keyboard means it's useless as a laptop and it's too big to fit in my pocket to use it to browse the internet on the move.

That's exactly the use I saw for it, but I wonder how easy it is to accurately set up the display?
I know some people take those digi photo frames around as a mobile portfolio, and I always thought I'd rather see the prints.
I'd like one, even just for being online when I'm in the lounge ignoring the family.

But it does have a keyboard. One on the screen and an optional hardware one. Do you not carry a bag or briefcase?

On screen means it eats into the already limited display. A plug in keyboard? Why not just buy a laptop or MacBook Air?

I'd like one but have no real need for one. The idea of using it as a portfolio is something that occurred to me but I'll have to see the iPad in action once they are in the stores.

I don't know enough about it, but Jobs will get plenty of money for it without me buying one. Is it a good concept? Possibly. Will it liked be flawed like the phone? Probably. Will people buy it in their droves? Almost certainly.

That's true, but your previous assertion was that it didn't have one when it clearly does.

There are a few things I was slightly disappointed about but you have to see it as part of the market it is fitting into.

i.e. the netbook market.

The on screen keyboard may eat into the screen space but it hasn't been an issue for iphone users. Also, I find myself looking more at the keyboard when I'm typing than at the screen and I tend to glance up at the screen in order to check for spelling mistakes etc...

I'm going to wait to see what the next iPhone is like before deciding on anything though. I'd like an iPhone and I've been waiting for the next one but if it isn't up to scratch I may lean towards this instead.
