I thought of posting this in the jokes thread but nah ...........

HOW MANY ZEROS IN A BILLION?

The next time you hear a politician use the Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about Whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, But one advertising agency did a good job of
Putting that figure into some perspective in One of it's releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were Living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion Pounds ago was only 13 hours and 12 minutes, At the rate our government Is spending it.

Building Permit Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Dog License Tax
Income Tax
Unemployment Tax
Fishing License Tax
Food License Tax
Fuel Permit Tax
Petrol/Diesel Tax
Hunting License Tax
Inheritance Tax
Inventory Tax
(tax on top of tax)
Alcohol Tax
Luxury Tax
Marriage License Tax
Property Tax
Real Estate Tax
Service charge taxes
Social Security Tax
Road Usage Tax
Local Tax
Vehicle License Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Workers Compensation Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago...
And our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the largest middle class in the world...
And Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened?
Can you spell 'politicians!'

What the hell happened?????

We did have a national debt 100 years ago.

We are still one of the most prosperous nations in the world.

I'd query that assertion. Income tax was introduced in 1798 to pay for weapons and equipment to fight Napoleon.

It also looks like the government has been propped up by loans since 1694, when the Bank of England was formed - obviously by a Scotsman.

Then why are they talking about pounds and not dollars?
You can't mix 'n' match like that without getting criticised for it.

Also, don't forget US billions are smaller than proper billions. They womble on about thousand million = billion, when it should be million million.

Or something. Big Dave, where are you with your milliards?

Has anyone else been watching that series on the Beeb about the navy and our maritime history??

That's where I gained this little nugget of knowledge!

Rich folk of the day all put their money together, and loaned it to the government who built war-ships to defend merchant vessles that were getting attacked by the french, and being looted.

Dog license tax doesn't exist now. It was scrapped ages ago, in the 80's I think.
But I get your point.

Looks like the value of a trillion and onwards is also transposable.

Yep, here in Germany, a billion is still a "real" billion, not the short scale American billion or milliard. But the USA downsized ALL denominations over a million. It seems the UK has followed suit, but I think most of Europe still has to translate what the US and UK press call a billion.
