I'm on a diet as from yesterday; the idea is to get my weight down from 15-2 to 14 (stone) in time for my 40th BD on the 19th March. So I'm cutting out junk food and snacks and will try to run a couple of mile three times a week, and play more squash.

Anybody else decided to diet for the New Year?

Sarcastic responses welcome (or should I put expected? :) )

I lost 2 stone last year without dieting or doing any exercise.

My wife is, but I'm not. I'm determined to eat a bit more healthily and not drink during the week, but that's what I try all the time anyway. I do think that with my wife on her diet, it should be easier for me to stick to. My downfall is alcohol and no exercise. I ought to go back to the gym, but I've moved and it's a bit of a faff to get too now.

I also lost nearly two stone last year without excercise or diet.

I can't remember what illness it was I had at the moment, (too busy thinking about a broken hard drive to worry about that) but it was quite nasty

Lost loads of weight last year as I couldn't afford booze. Best diet ever.

Now we're tight on money I haven't pigged out as much as I usually do over Xmas so I haven't put on any weight *smug mode*

I just think I will eat the same but do more. So I just went out on my bike, certain parts of me are not thawed out yet.

Never do diets, just eat a bit less and do a bit more. ;)

My weight will drop a bit anyway when I start walking to work again from Thursday onwards, though I'm gonna try and stop ordering Coke and other deadly stuff from Tesco with the usual house order - there's still Coke, crisps, ice cream, popcorn and those Tuc biscuits floating about the house from well before Xmas for one thing

I don't buy anything like that. If the temptation isn't there........

Same here.

It's really worked for me - not.

Ah well - at least being 18st 3lb I should get hypothermia well after most of the skinny gits.

Well not really starting a diet as such. Last year I started this military fitness training thing and eating better.

Now I want to lose a bit of body fat for a holiday I'm going on in May.

Should be easy if I stick at it.

Everything you eat or drink is your diet, so you are always on one. Oh, unless you mean a weight loss diet. ;)

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Quite, and realistically all I 'need' is something to drink that isn't plain water or super-fattening Coke, but my ma's the most forgetful person on earth and refuses to take a shopping list with her, I then wind up doing a Tesco order thinking 'delivery's fcuking dear!' and stocking up on Coke bare minimum. Vicious cycle starts all over again

I'm not about to traipse to Tesco of a night (I don't drive) after walking miles to and from work either :(

Write a standard list with the basics on it, laminate it and tie it to the inside of her handbag.
