Need ideas for a birthday present for my Dad. It's his 60th this year. I was thinking either a ipod nano or a new digital camera (he likes tech stuff), can't quite stretch to a new laptop for him. Any other ideas? |

Perhaps don't buy him tech? His 60th is a big year and an iPod or camera will probably only last a couple of years. |

+1 for something that will last a few years, like an expensive tailored suit, or a classic wristwatch. |

How about a day out driving rally cars or steam engines. |

The steam train idea sounds good (he likes trains) or a watch. Hmmn, so many choices.
He's still using my old personal cd player from 15 years ago & my old minidisc recorded that's 10 years old.
He doesn't need any more suits (He retired at 50 & spends his time working with a couple of charities & being chair of governors at a local school) but I like the watch idea. Might have to check with my brother to see if he wants to go halves on something big. |

When my dad turned 60 we clubbed together and bought him tickets to see the GP at Silverstone, he totally loved it. Does your dad have any hobbies like that? Seeing Top Gear live or something? |

I would suggest theatre tickets or DVDs of some old films that he may like. There are always box sets of Only Fools and Horses. |

How about buying him a model of the space shuttle and hiding some tickets for... oh hang on, that's been done ![]() How about paying for a lap dance for him ![]() More sensibly, since he obviously takes care of his tech gear, either an iPod touch or a new camera. |

Spoke to mum & my brother. Looks like tickets on a steam train are winning. |

I mentioned that because it is what my dad would love, and they are roughly the same age. Now if only I was earning enough money. ![]() |

Add a cheap life insurance policy with yourself as the sole beneficiary. ![]() |
