OK, a question for you all from Radio 1.

I managed to work it out in my head in about 30 seconds and was very chuffed so I thought I'd pass it on and see if anyone else can get it.

Q: Which is the greater number? The number of seconds in a week or the number of minutes in a year?

Obviously you could use a calculator to work out what each one is but how would you do it in your head?

:D

Who needs a calculator?

Shove "1 week into seconds" into Google for an instant answer. ;)

I did it without actually working out how many seconds or minutes there are in the time periods.

I first thought that seconds in a week is 60 x 60 x 24 x 7 and the first thing for working out minutes in a year is 60 x blah.

so remove 60 from both.

i.e. seconds = 60 x 24 x 7
minutes = 24 x 7 x 52 (weeks in a year)

60 x 24 x 7 is more than 52 x 24 x 7

:D

You can do it a lot quicker eliminating hours, days and anything else unneeded

60 seconds in a minute
seconds in a week = minutes in a week *60
minutes in a year = 52 * minutes in a week
there are 52 (which is smaller than 60) so the number of seconds in a week is larger than minutes in a year

LOL, true.

Was driving at the time and didn't think of that :D
