I've had a hotmail account for god knows how long and I want to clear my "sent" folder. There are currently over 1,000 entries saved there.
Is there a quick way to delete all that anyone knows or is it a case of plodding through page by page marking mails and deleting them.

You can check all and then delete all the checked mails. You will still have to delete page by page. Though you can ensure that the ones you want will not be deleted.
