Okay this has been bugging me for a while. I recently remembered some scenes from a tv show. Can't remember what it was about or anything so am trying to figure out the name in order to look it up.
The show has an alien on planet earth. I recall the alien looking like an ordinary human. He has a companian in the form of a floating eye. I don't know if it's a computer or an organic-basd lifeform. I don't know why this alien is on earth butdo recall a scene where he goes to some dinner party where veg and dips are served on a table. The alien picks up a flower from a vase on said table, dips it in some dip and eats it, thinking it to be another edible item. I also recall him having some kind of issue with a cash machine.
That's all I can remember from the show. I know it's probably some obscure show. Was probably based in late 80s to early 90s.

Was this cartoon or live action?
Also, was the floating Eye a puppet thing (if it was live action)?

Benji, Zak and the alien prince?Only thing with a floating eye type thing I can think of.

I don't remember the benji onr but yes it looks like it was Hard Time on Planet Earth.
